摘要:本文是高中英语教学论文,本研究表明将形成性评价应用到英语写作教学中是有意义的。这个研究证实了形成性评价可以提升学生的英语写作能力,而且使学生以积极的态度去面对英语写作。

Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Listening, speaking, reading, and writing are the four basic skills in Englishteaching. All the four skills are essential for students to learn. Nowadays, writing hasbecome more and more important in English study. English writing accounts for 25points in College Entrance Examination. English teachers and students begin to paymore and more attention to English writing. However, the author finds that manystudents have problems in English writing during her internship, such as words,sentences, and grammar, etc. Some students’ vocabularies are limited, some studentshave problems in writing coherent sentences, and some students can’t use correctgrammar. The author notices that many English teachers only use summativeAssessment in class, and few of them use formative Assessment.National English Curriculum Standards for General High School points out thatscientific evaluation system is an important guarantee to realize curriculum objectives.English class in senior high school should focus on setting up multiple evaluationsystem which aims at promoting the students’ all-round development. Assessmentshould be useful for students’ English learning and development. Summativeassessment should be combined with formative assessment in English class.Formative assessment emphasizes students’ comprehensive English language-usingability and focuses on students’ emotion, attitude, and value in their learning process.Nowadays, there are still a lot of English teachers who evaluate students only by theirscores in examinations. In senior high school, summative assessment still takes aleading position, and examination is mainly used as evaluation tool. Teachers are thechief parts of evaluation in English class, which may make students feel bored,because students just accept teacher’s evaluation. Teachers only focus on the result,and ignore the process of learning.

1.2 Significance of the Study
Students’ comprehensive ability should be brought to the forefront. Teachersshould not only focus on students’ scores. Exam-oriented Education can’t promotestudents’ all-round development. It’s important and necessary to develop students’comprehensive ability.As the National English Curriculum Standards for General High School says,summative assessment should be combined with formative assessment in Englishclass in order to promote students’ all-round development. Assessment is considered as an essential part in teaching. Since reasonable assessment can help students figureout their strengths and weakness in their studies, and their differences from theirclassmates, teachers should attach importance to the assessment. Although theNational English Curriculum Standards for General High School has pointed out theimportance of using formative assessment, many teachers still ignore this assessmentin class, especially in writing class. The assessment used in education should behelpful and useful to students’ development. Formative assessment is student-oriented.Teachers are not the main parts of the evaluation. If students take part in assessment inclass, they will pay more attention to the process of studying, which is helpful forstudents to absorb knowledge. Formative assessment provides various evaluationformats. Students can accept various feedbacks from different aspects, not only fromtheir teachers.
