Chapter IV Results and Analysis
4.1 Findings from the Classroom Observation
One of the research question is what types of feedback have been adopted by the novice teachers in the English speaking class in the senior high school and what the proportion of each type is. In order to have a good knowledge of novice teachers’ feedback in English speaking class, the author adopted classroom observation and classroom video recording in this research. The research was done in a key senior high school in Baotou. Two novice teachers and their classes were involved. The classroom observation of the two novice teachers’ speaking class took the author one month and reveals a picture of the current situation about the novice teachers’ feedback in class. The author took videos of two classes of them as the representative class, one for each novice teacher. The videos have been transcribed into written material to have a furthur analysis. The research question will be discussed in this part to find out the types of novice teachers’ feedback in speaking class and the proportion of each type.
As has been described in the literature review part, teachers’ feedback can be classcified into different types with different criteria. Since this research is focused on the novice teachers’ feedback in speaking class, the researcher concerntrated on the verbal feedback. By means of classroom observation and the video transcription , five types of novice teachers’ feedback in the speaking class of senior high school were found, which go into three groups. The details will be presented here.

Due to the lack of real language environment, the way for Chinese students to learn oral English mainly comes from the learning and imitation of teachers’ words in the classroom, that is to say, the classroom is still the main position for students’ language learning.
