摘要:本文是英语论文范文,文章主要谈论的是数据驱动学习在英语专业里写作的应用。As for English learning, writing is often regarded as one of the thorniest problems. In recent years, many teachers advocate that spoken English should be thecenter of English learning.

Chapter 1 Introduction


1.1 Background of the Present Study
Since the application of opening-up policy, more and more internationalcorporations have entered Chinese market, so more and more English translators andinterpreters are needed, and then English has become a compulsory course in China.Although English teaching has been made great progresses in recent years, Englishwriting is still a headache for teachers and students. Some urgent problems andmisunderstandings still exist in the field of English writing.In the light of teaching English writing, most teachers or researchers would liketo pay much attention on how teachers teach English. And a growing number ofpeople focus their paper on the teaching methods of English writing, such as theproduct approach, the process approach, the genre approach and so on. However, fewpeople would like to divert their attention to how students learn and improve Englishwriting.Actually, it probably is a wrong view. Language learning has its specialdisciplines. Some linguists even say that language acquisition has its stable andunchangeable route, and the rate or speed is the only thing which can be transformedduring English learning. In this way, the teaching method can merely be the catalystor the accelerator in the route of English learning,.

1.2 Significance of the Present Study
As for English learning, writing is often regarded as one of the thorniestproblems. In recent years, many teachers advocate that spoken English should be thecenter of English learning. However, many famous linguists, such as Shu Dingfang(2004), He Anping (2004) and so on, hold the different view that the ability of writingis the core of English learning. In other words, they thought that the writing abilitycan demonstrate one’s English proficiency to a large extend. In most cases, writingoften costs students a vast amount of time, but little progress can be made. The present study aims at offering an effective way to improve learners’ writingproficiency. The significance of the present study is displaying as follows.In the first place, in terms of English writing, albeit many teaching approachesare explored, they are not so effective to establish students a habit of efficientself-learning. Consequently, more effective ways to help students improve theirwriting are still needed. For this reason, author intends to introduce data-drivenlearning into the English writing. Simply speaking, data-driven learning is a way toteach students to put corpus into use when they come across unsolved problemsduring their writing.

Chapter 2 Literature Review


2.1 Corpus
Corpus is indispensable tool for data-driven learning in this research, so thebrief introduction of corpus is offered, and it contains the definition, types anddevelopment of corpus. Moreover, the British National Corpus (BNC) and the Corpusof Contemporary American English (COCA) are introduced in specific aspects. The word “corpus” drives from Latin words. Its meaning is body. In the field oflinguistics, it refers to the body of language which is the collection of texts, and thesetexts are stored in an electronic database.
