1.0 Introduction
With the increase of trade, investment and the international flows of financial capital, there is no doubt that global economy is moving steadily toward integration. Consumers are purchasing more and more foreign goods, and there are more and more multinational companies. People can feel that the world we live in is becoming smaller and smaller and contact with each other is not only closer but also increasingly easier. As to globalization, some people believe that globalization will promote the productivity and living standards around the world; others believe that globalization has exacerbated the competition among nations, and will make more people lose their jobs, and lead to undeveloped or developing countries in a disadvantageous position in global competition. However, what is undisputed is that globalization has become an irresistible trend of the world. From the case study, it is concluded that different globalization strategy will play different role in the globalization process of enterprises and its development and prosperity. This essay discusses the meaning of globalization to enterprises, as well as types of globalization strategy of enterprises.
2.0 Meaning of globalization to enterprises and introduction of types of globalization strategy
In an international seminar, a large U.S. company CEO said: "more than 50% of Our business has developed overseas, which means that our company has globalized." Grove from Intel expressed clearly that Intel has long been a global company. Peter Drucker, a well-known American manager said: “If an enterprise, regardless of size, wants to maintain its leadership in any developed country, it is necessary for it to obtain and maintain the leadership in the market of any developed countries (Joshi 2009). Therefore, it must have the ability to research, design, develop and manufacture in any developed countries in the world; and at the same time the enterprise can freely export from any developed countries. Thus, companies must be transnational.
Multinational enterprises are generally managed in accordance with the established strategies. Usually, types of multinational management strategy are as follows:
First, market penetration strategy. This is a globalization strategy in accordance with the model of "existing products - demand - develop enterprise overseas". This strategy is first to shift the existing products for the domestic market to export to meet the same needs as of domestic markets, and then to organize production according to the same demand in foreign countries. Market penetration strategy has combined the stage of goods export to foreign countries with the development stage of organically together, which allows enterprises to establish local market system and international market system during the stage of commodities export. and as to the production technology, since the product system and tradition is different from the target countries, enterprises should modify them in accordance with local circumstances, including both economic and political conditions, and then the establish local product system (Hughes 2005).
