Individual Report -(This will assess all the learning outcomes).
The focus of the report should be one of the following groups within the British labour market: Disabled, Ethnic Minority Groups, Women, Young or Old Workers, Migrant workers.

• Identify the position of that group within the labour market, including changes over time, as appropriate

• Evaluate existing policies and practices
• Recommend ways of overcoming any under representations identified and justify these recommendations.
To do this, the report must include:
1) An analysis of relevant statistical data. The report must include and comment on at least one table of figures.
2) Examples from published empirical material. The report must include and discuss at least 3 examples of published empirical research drawn either from the seminars and / or from you own research. Material outlined in the lectures can be used but does not count as one of your 3 sources. This must include at least 2 peer-reviewed journal articles
3) The application of theory. You must explain and apply at least one relevant theory. This can be taken from the lectures and / or your own reading.

Introduction
Discrimination is a factor of labour market failure and a source of inequity in the distribution of income and wealth and it is usually subject to government intervention e.g. through regulation and legislation.
Many groups of people are easily discriminated in the British labor market, such as the disabled, the ethnic minority groups, women, young or old workers and migrant workers. Therefore gender discrimination in labor market is a key issue in the world and the main problem includes unequal opportunities of obtaining employment between males and females, unequal payment between males and females and other unequal rights for females in workplace. Gender discrimination in labour market is not only affects the rational uses of human resources of women, but also results in the waste of social human resources.
What is the reason lead to gender discrimination in workplace? It can be reduced to three aspects. First one is traditional conception. It always related to human capital theory and women’s preference theory. The second one is occupational segregation. ‘Women’s employment tends to be concentrated in certain occupations’ (Riley&College. 2006). And the last one is the effects of monophony power. For example, ‘females may be relatively geographically immobile, because they are tied to their husbands' place of employment and may be paid less than a competitive wage by a monopolist employer’ (Riley&College. 2006).
