assignment 2. Research design (See Unit Outline for requirements and assessment criteria)
The assignment is to design a research study. You will not carry out the study for this assignment. However you should be able to do so in principle.留学生论文代写 Think of a study that would be realistic to carry out in due time with due resources.

This is a guideline. Students should follow it carefully in order to manage the task effectively. You may go ahead of the schedule but try not to lag behind (too much).

Complete Step 1 in two days in the beginning of September.

Step 1. Choose a topic that you find worth investigating
Identify a topic within the field of Language Acquisition that you would like to know more about. Think about questions that occurred to you during class or think about your own second language acquisition or teaching experience to find a question that interests you. Importantly: choose only ONE topic.

Complete Step 2-4 in one week by mid September.

Step2. Literature search
Look up the relevant literature for your topic and find out where the field of second language acquisition stands regarding your question of interest.

Step3. Generate your research idea
Based on your literature search, ask yourself, what there is more to find out.
a) You can choose a study that you find either especially interesting or particularly doubtful. In your own study you will discuss the study and try to improve or to replicate it with a change of one or two variables.

At this point, you may email me the research question (two to three sentences) and the References of two to four research papers that you intend to use for your assignment, so I can OK them before you start writing.

Step4. Pondering on the possible outcomes
Think about the possible results you will get. How could you interpret your results? What do you expect? Does your test really investigate what you want to know? And will you know more after your study than you did before? If you are satisfied with the relevance and validity of your research than proceed to step 4. If not, try to think of another design (i.e. go back to step 3) and start from there again.

Complete Step 5 in the third week of September.

Step5. Create your instrument
Think more thoroughly about the methods you want to use to investigate your research question and create them.
If you design a questionnaire, formulate its items. If you want to use elicitation tasks, look for the material (pictures for picture descriptions etc.). If you want to carry out an interview, decide how you want to make your participants talk, which questions you will ask, and how long the interview shall be. If you design an experiment create the stimuli.

Complete Step 6 in one week (last week of Septebmer).

Step6. Write it up
