Chapter Ⅱ Literature Review
2.1 Definitions of Key Terms
The definitions of m-learning, vocabulary learning and vocabulary app are statedrespectively in this section.
2.1.1 Mobile-Learning
In recent years, as a new learning mode, mobile learning has been widely used inprimary and secondary education, and has gradually become a hot topic in the field ofeducation. Based on a large number of empirical studies, scholars at home and abroad putforward different definitions of mobile learning mode. According to Clark Quinn(2000),m-learning is any kind of learning that takes place via a portable, hand-held electronicdevice. Paul Harris (2001) defines mobile learning as the cross-product of mobilecomputing technology and e-learning, making it possible for learners to learn anywhereand anytime. According to the article Mobile Education- A Glance at the future publishedby Aleksander Dye et al. in 2003, mobile computing devices are the key to mobile learning, which help break through the limitations of learning time and place, effectively presentlearning content, and promote the interaction between teachers and students. Peters (2006)viewed m-learning as a significant part of the flexible learning model and a way oflearning “just in time, just enough and just for me”. Professor Huang Ronghuai (2008)thought m-learning is that learners study in a non-fixed and not previously establishedposition. Wang Jianhua et al. (2009) regarded m-learning as a construction process ofpersonal and social knowledge achieved by learners who are accessible to learningresources. And learners can communicate and collaborate with others anywhere andanytime via mobile devices (such as smart phone, etc.) and wireless communicationnetwork.” M-learning refers to the learner's use of mobile learning devices such as mobilephones, ipads and other devices with wireless communication functions (Wu Hongmei,2013).

2.2 The Theoretical Foundations
The application research of mobile learning should be based on the mature theories, and then such research can have strong supporting points. The author summarizes two theories to support mobile learning by means of reading relevant literature.
2.2.1 Informal Learning Theory
Informal learning is a rather unorganized type of learning which does not follow a setmethodology or curriculum. The term “informal learning” was introduced by MacolmKnowles in book Informal Adult Education. It is spontaneous and mostly occurs outsidethe school. Informal learning may take place at any stage of one’s life. The sources ofinformal learning are diverse, including library, computer, television and smart phone, etc.
Informal Learning has the following characteristics. (1) Personalized learning style;Informal learning is a learning approach that is not organized by teachers or otherorganizations, but initiated and regulated by learners themselves. (2) Random learningplace and time; Informal learning generally occurs in public places, including virtualenvironments, and does not require special classrooms . (3) Diverse forms of learning; Therandomness of informal learning determines the diversity of本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
