2. Literature Review
This chapter began with the definition of error, then the theoretical bases of the researchwere introduced respectively, including the Output Hypothesis theory and the EA theory. Finally, the previous empirical studies on translation errors abroad and at home were reviewedand the limitations of previous researches were introduced briefly.
2.1 Definition of Error
English learners often make errors in the process of second language acquisition, whichis normal and inevitable. Many scholars define error from different perspectives.(1) Error is evident of a deficiency in learners’ knowledge of the target language, adeficiency in competence. (1967:161-170)(2) “Errors are flawed side of learner speech or writing. They are those parts ofconversion or composition that deviate from some selected norms of mature languageperformance” (Dulay et al, 1982:138).(3) Edge regards errors as “wrong forms that the pupil could not correct even if theirwrongness were to be pointed out” (1989:11).(4) “Errors are deviations in pronunciation, structure or vocabulary from what isconsidered to be normal be adult native speakers” (Friedegberg, 1991:55).(5) “An error can be defined as a deviation from the norms of the target language” (Ellis,1994:51).(6) James refines the definition of errors as “being an instance of language that isunintentionally deviant and is not self-corrigible by its author”, mistakes are those incorrectforms that learners can self-corrigible when learners are told the existence of deviance or eventold nature of the deviance and the exact location. (James, 2001:78)(7) The error is the deviation of language use, which is caused by lacking the knowledgeof a target language. It is difficult to deal with some errors that arise from lacking the cultureknowledge of a target language. (Dai Weidong, Shu Dingfang, 1994:1-7)(8) Errors are caused by the learner’s lack of knowledge and it shows a lack ofcompetence. Namely, the learners are unable to use language in perspective and they do notknow the right form of the target language. Mistakes often happen when learners have alreadylearned the skill or knowledge but fail to perform competence correctly. (Hu Zhuanglin,2006:289)

2.2 Theoretical Basis
Language output plays an important part in the process of language acquisition.Translation is a kind of language output. Swan presents the output hypothesis theory in 1985.Swan (1985:235-253) puts forward that if learners want to become native-like speakers, theyneeded to grasp opportunities to produce the second language and she thinks that this processcan test if the language knowledge have been internalized by the learners. In classroom, speaking and writing belong to language output. Swan says that the process of languageacquisition has output. Educators should emphases on language output, which can enhancelearners’ learning
strategy. Learners will pay attention to what they express in the process ofproducing language and they will avoid errors, therefore, they will improve their languageaccuracy and fluency unconsciously.Swain (1985:235-253) emphases the importance of comprehensible output hypothesis, she thinks that when the learners say something, which can not be understood immediately bytheir conversational partners, this situation will prompt the learners to notice the gap that arehappened in their conversation. On account of it, learners will use other w
