According to China Automotive Industry Development Annual Report(2021),China'snew energy vehicle sales have ranked first in the world for six consecutive years.Theaccelerated development of vehicle electrification has boosted the enormous demand forcharging piles.As of September 2021,China has built the world's largest charging servicenetwork and the amount of charging infrastructure has reached 2.223 million(Zhang,2021:104).Therefore,the installation,commissioning,operation and maintenance ofcharging piles are becoming a key issue for public access.As for overseas dealers,technicians and users of domestic new energy vehicles who are not native Chinesespeakers,in-depth and easy-to-understand translation on charging piles is essential.

On the other hand,as a student of Master of Translation and Interpreting(MTI)withthe main research orientation on the translation of science and technology,the translatorhas systematically studied related courses,including automotive engineering technicaltranslation,mechanical engineering technical translation,mechanical technology English,translation theories,etc.,which have laid a solid foundation for scientific translation.

Now that the industry of charging piles calls for high-quality translation and luckilythe translator is competent in translating sci-tech texts,when coming across thebook—Installation,Commissioning,Operation and Maintenance of Electric VehicleCharging Piles in the school library,the translator immediately decided to translate parts ofit into English.The selected parts give a detailed introduction to the standards of electricvehicle charging systems,as well as functions,components,classifications and businessmodels of electric vehicle charging piles.In the C-E translation process,the translator haschosen appropriate translation techniques and methods under the guidance of Catford’stheory of translation shifts.

1.2 Significance of the Translation Project

The significance of this translation project is reflected in the following aspects.

Secondly,it provides guidance for overseas tech support team about the installationand operation of charging piles,which helps China's enterprises linked with charging pilesin expanding business overseas.

2.Translation Process
