Postcolonial translation studies probes how translators, translating and translation arerestricted by power relations as well as how translators, translating and translationconstruct or deconstruct power relations. It has an eye for weak nations, weak culturesand weak popularity, which fights against cultural hegemonism and the aggression ofdominant cultures, and it tries to decolonize dominated cultures by translation.Based on Berman's translation ethics, Venuti advocates Ethics of Difference.According to Venuti, the very choice of a foreign text for translation can also signify itsforeignness by challenging domestic canons for foreign literatures and domesticstereotypes for foreign cultures.This thesis intends to present postcolonial translation theory and Ethics of Differencein exporting translation, and explores China English in translation. Data are an essentialpart, without which the analysis cannot be plainly performed and ideally fulfilled. ChinaEnglish to be analyzed in this thesis are mainly collected from the representative Englishlanguage media in China, such as CCTVNews, China Daily, 2尸'Century, Beijing Review,and other related websites.

This dissertation falls into five chapters:Chapter one makes a brief introduction of the background, purpose and significance,data collection and methodology of the study.Chapter two reviews the new cosmopolitanism, discusses the relationship betweencultural identity and translation in former translation studies, and then presents thedifference of China English and Chinese English.Chapter three endeavors to set up the theoretical framework for the present study bydiscussing postcolonial translation theory and Venuti's Ethics and Difference, and furtherexplains how these theories can be applied to resist cultural hegemonism and preserve theweak culture.Chapter four expounds the necessity of preserving cultural identity in the context ofcultural globalization, and indicates China's marginalized national cultural identity. Bypresenting the cultural identity embedded in China English, it deals with and therelationship between reconstruction of national cultural identity and promotion of ChinaEnglish in translation.Chapter five is the concluding remark with major findings of the present study,limitations and some suggestions for future research.
