摘要:In this paper, I decided to express my understanding of teaching culture with a role play and I will use the term a role play a to determine a teaching technique in which the students are asked to identify with the given familiar or non-familiar roles and to interact with the other role characters within the given sociocultural situation.
classes as the compulsary couse, and the students in other institute also have the chance to choose culture teaching as a selective course.
Nearly all students have the curiosity to other countries’ culture, even they have no chance to go around the world, but through the culture teaching class, they can know the culture of that country, they will know their different habbits, different languages, and other things, but also you can find something very interesting, so most students have interests in the culture teaching class. But now the sitiatuion is not so optimistic. Most students reflect that the culture teaching class is too boring, in the class, everyone just look at the textbook, and the teacher just reads the textbook, after reading, then the class is over. If the students go to the class, just to listen to the teacher’s reading books, then it is really really too boring. For most students, they can read them too, then what is the use of the teacher?
Some teachers want to active the class dynamics and make some improvement. For example, they begin to use the multimedia classroom, before the class, the teacher should prepare the powerpoint courseware, and in the courseware, they will add some interesting contents or photos connected with the culture teaching lesson to attract students. And by this way, truly it is useful. Students reflect that it is more interesting than before, but the question is still there. Courseware can interst students, but it can not help them to study the knowledge. Most students only have a look at the intersting part, but after that, they still have no impression about what they have learned in that class. So it leaves the teacher another question how to make students actively take part into the study, leave them deeper impresions, and make the study easier and more intersting for the students.
B. Culture Teaching and Role Play
In the above, the current situation of culture teaching has been discussed, and we aware the left problem with the culture teaching for the teachers now is how to make students actively take part into the study, give them deeper impresions, and make the study easier and more intersting for the students. There are many reasons for the weakness in culture teaching, for example, the teacher’s lack of awareness, the old teaching mold, and the lack of the cross-culture interaction. So the teacher should pay much attention to the culture teaching, the teacher should accelerate their culture literacy, and the old class mold need change, the teacher should bring more language practice to the class to make the class more interesting. Culture teaching, in general terms, involves a comprehensive description of the “ways of a people”3 which is intertwined with the teaching of language. Before proceeding any further it would be necessary to briefly consider the history of culture teaching.
Based on the question, the research shows that no matter what kind of activity, you should let everyone take part into the activity, then it can arouse their interest and their minds to think and to absorb something. Study is also an activity, so if you can ask the students voluntarily join in the class, then their study passion will be much higher. So the teacher can not just let the students passively sit there to listen to the theories. And the best method is the role plar teaching method. Culture teaching relates to the real
