In assessing the requirements for entry level positions in any industry it is imperative to know a precise definition for the term entry level. According to North, and Worth (2004) entry level can be any position where employers may require a maximum of 5 years of expertise. Additionally, the authors stated that these entry level positions do not place extensive prominence on the prior attainment of advanced educational background or even training in specific areas (North, & Worth, 2004). These entry level positions in the Information Technology (IT) or Information System (IS) industry can vary from entry level IT technicians to programmers and analysts in the IT department.

In every industry there is a need for IT services and therefore the IT department can be seen as the backbone of any organization. For instance, each application used to help deliver the day to day service of any institution is maintained by the IT department. Likewise, if there is a problem related to technology that requires repair, an IT personnel is called immediately. Therefore, it is essential for entry level employees of the IT department to posses certain skills and meet certain criteria. Therefore, these professionals within the IT department are looked upon as individuals that have skills such as flexible and inflexible skills. These flexible and inflexible skills are commonly referred to by researchers as soft and hard skills respectively. The hard skills focus specifically on the technical skills that should be acquired through studies at various universities. On the other hand, soft skills refer to those which are most likely achieved and influenced by life and work experiences (Turner, 2004).

The world of computer technology is constantly changing. As a result of these changes, the IT departments are effected immensely across the board. In fact, as the years progress the job market requirements also change drastically. Therefore, with this type of tumultuous market, institutions or workplaces have come to realize that because of such change, the organization must be able to accommodate and acquire a lot more of diverse skill sets. This change is evident as employers now consider the following skills which include knowing how to be taught, think and solve problems which are also the basic skills that seem to be in shortage. Moreover, Alpha, 1997 and Clagett 1997 affirmed that there is also the need to have knowledge and the ability to be able to use the computer systems effectively and efficiently (as cited in Hartman, Bentley, Richards, & Krebs, 2005). Additionally, because of this constant change in the computer world, Information System (IS) workers constantly have to improve certain skills or increase the number of skills they have by moving from one skill to the next skill as a result of th论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
