摘要:研究语言习得语言不能忽视的磨料语言研磨语言习得相关的产品,它们是不可分割的两个方面的语言学习。外语日食经过几十年的发展,已经取得了丰硕的成果。国内这方面的研究开始于本世纪初,他们中的大部分翻译在这方面的理论的外国总结国外发展。

language attrition is still a blank in China. Since then some researchers inChina began to get involved in this area. Nevertheless, until 2010,except for someintroductory or theoretical description of foreign studies,empirical studies are quite limited.It is now more and more realized that language attrition study should not be neglected,especially English language attrition under the Chinese context, because so many people havealready devoted much time to learning English. Language attrition has been studied for nearlythirty years abroad, while in China, it is still in its infancy stage. Until now, no comparisonhas been made on the students who continue their formal classroom learning and who stop it.The present study is intended to gain some insight into the issue of language attrition throughmaking a thorough comparison of language proficiency level of these two types of students inthe hope of providing some guidance to the area of SLA research and EFL in China.Furthermore, the present study will also offer some new perspectives to the language teachingpolicy and the arrangements of English curriculum in the universities.


1.2 Aims of the Study研究目标
The present study is designed mainly on the general questions of all language attritionresearch: the extent of language attrition among non-native, and language skill's attrition,i.e.,listening, reading, and also some linguistic features, for example, the attrition degree ofvocabulary and grammar. So with consideration of these questions, the present study intendsto investigate the degree of language attrition happening among students who stop formalclassroom learning; and on the degree of attrition about grammar and vocabulary, as well asthe attrition situation of listening and reading. Therefore the present study aims at thefollowing four aspects:The first aim is to check the attrition phenomenon happening after the subjects stop theformal classroom learning.The second aim is to verify the delaying effect of continuous language learning onlanguage attrition. The attrition has been investigated from various aspects,but little attentionhas been paid to the continuous learning's effect on delaying language attrition. The presentstudy will provide empirical evidence if the attrition takes place on the subjects who still takecontinuous lessons for two hours per week.The third aim is to check whether the subjects who continue to accept the formalinstruction will show better retention of acquired language than the subjects who stop it.The fourth aim is to verify the inverse hypothesis and check whether the CET-4 level isthe critical threshold level in China. This hypothesis argues that there is an inverserelationship between the proficiency level prior to the onset of attrition and the rate or amountof attrition. This hypothesis has been confirmed many times abroad, but whether it can besupported in Chinese context needs further empirical evidence. Besides, the critical thresholdlevel has been identified in west,(Lowe, 1982; Clark,1984; Nagasawa, 1999),but it needsempirical study to test the appropriate level for Chinese learners.
