摘要:研究语言习得语言不能忽视的磨料语言研磨语言习得相关的产品,它们是不可分割的两个方面的语言学习。外语日食经过几十年的发展,已经取得了丰硕的成果。国内这方面的研究开始于本世纪初,他们中的大部分翻译在这方面的理论的外国总结国外发展。

1.1 Significance of the Study研究意义
由于中国推出的政策改革和开放出一方天地,在中国的语言教师和语言学家,语言能力的英语水平,备受关注。现在,已被列为英国的中学和大学教育的一门必修课。Since China launched the policy of reform and opening-up to the out-side world,language proficiency level of English has aroused much attention of language teachers andlinguistic scholars in China. Right now,English has been listed as a compulsory subject in theeducation of the middle school and the university. In many provinces, pupils in primaryschools even started their English at Grade Three. English has become a major subject in theentrance examination from junior middle schools to the senior middle school and from thesenior middle school to the universities. Therefore, most students have learned English foralmost twelve years when they enter the college education.According to the statistics from the Second China International Seminar on ForeignLanguage Teaching Pedagogy, there are about 300 million Chinese learners of English,https://www.51lunwen.org/languagethesis/  whichaccounts for 1/4 of the whole population (Liu Wei, 2007). Many people devote a largeamount of time and great efforts to learning English, but the effect of their learning is a veryhot topic of debate. Most students find that they forget what they have learned the momentthey graduate because of the lack of exposure to English, which is unfavorable for the timethey have spent on the acquisition of the language. In addition, while English is learned as aFL (EFL) in China,mostly, it is regarded as a means of diploma or credit, people are notcompulsory to use it in their daily lives.Nonetheless,the importance of English in the economic boom, in cultural exchange, insocial development and all in all in this more and more globalized world is increasinglyrealized by us Chinese. So the question arises: "how much of these acquired skills are retainedover longer periods of time when they are not being used?,,(Welten, 1987,p. 22)Although linguists and teachers have paid much more attention to the acquisition oflanguage, they should also pay the due attention to the issue of language attrition, whichmeans the loss of a language or a portion of that language by either a speech community or anindividual.When it comes to the academic value of language attrition, Van Els and Wei tens (1989)stressed both the theoretical and applied arguments. Among the theoretical arguments, twomajor issues were listed: 1) the contribution of language loss research to our understanding ofhuman memory and language change in individuals and groups; 2) the relations andcorrespondences between processes of acquisition and loss. As for social value,they stressedthe empirical foundation that research on language loss can provide for language planning andlanguage teaching policy (Van Els, 1989,p. 105). Hedgcock (1991) gave a more specificapplied reason: to develop instructional methods that might postpone the loss,slow it down oreven ensure against its onset among learners.The abroad study in language attrition has attracted more and more attention, while inChina, little attention has been paid to it until the advent of the 21st century. An article namedA Quality Evaluation of FLT Empirical Studies in January, 2002 by Wu Xudong and ZhangWenzhong was published in Foreign Language Teaching and Research.
