摘要:At present, the college English education in our country, especially the English readingcomprehension education, is still the traditional education model that mainly based on the memory ofthe English words and the application of the English grammar. It can not deny that the traditionaleducation model has its own rationality. And under this kind of education model, there are greatnumber of English talents were cultivated to the society. However, with the rapid economicdevelopment, society’s requirements for the English reading ability have been gradually improved.The traditional English education model is limited by its own limitations, which can not meet therequirements. So how to further improve college students’ English reading ability, which requires abreakthrough and innovation in the traditional English education.

1.1 The development history of English teaching in our country
From the start of the founding of new China, English as a foreign language has become animportant foundation course in the university education. As the reform and open to the outsideworld of our country, and as the implementation of the modernization of education, Englishgenerally began to occupy a certain percentage in college entrance examination. Wu Yingeng (1)and Lu Ci (2) were also separately compiled two English textbooks, which are suitable for theengineering students. They put the important point on students' English reading comprehensioncultivation, which nearly be taken as the main cultivation aspect. Teachers or other Englishtrainers can take this opportunity to enhance students' practical applying ability of Englishreading comprehension. And at the same time it has also some requirements on the aspects ofstudents' listening and speaking.In 1983, English has become a compulsory subject to be tested in the college entranceexamination. English has been finally finalized its position in our educational system, whichmake the position of English education largely changed. The change can be obviously felt, whichis reflected from the change of the English course. In previous, the English course is the basiccourse only in the university. With the development of the English education, the English coursegradually becomes the key course that students' should be learned before they entering theuniversity. The change goes a step further promotes that the popularity of English education inour educational system.In 1986, English education committee members began to implement the CET-4 and CET-6examinations within the scope of all universities of our country, which are the tests in order totest the English proficiency level of college students. And if you passed the examination, you willbe granted to the level certificate. The degree of importance of college English education to befurther improved.Into the 21stcentury, the Fourth Ministerial Conference held in Doha on November 10,2011.The conference finally adopted the decision that China can join in the WTO. On the dateDecember 11,China officially became the first 143 WTO members, which greatly promotedthe economic globalization process of our country. English, as the international language, has notonly the standard to measure whether students ’academic records excellent or not in school, but also it gradually become a survival tool when college students, especially the English professionalcollege students, into the society after graduated.Until it has developed for years, in present, some English training organizations, such as theorganizations, which specialized in training students to pass the CET-4, CET-6 and some otherexamination-oriented organizations, also put English reading comprehension as their teachingfocus.

 

1.2 English education in our country
The English education in our country, which development experienced from nonexistence to passinto existence, from a subject of unimportance to become a key course during the development of theEnglish education, has greatly developed, especially when we entered into the 21st.
