摘要:At present, the college English education in our country, especially the English readingcomprehension education, is still the traditional education model that mainly based on the memory ofthe English words and the application of the English grammar. It can not deny that the traditionaleducation model has its own rationality. And under this kind of education model, there are greatnumber of English talents were cultivated to the society. However, with the rapid economicdevelopment, society’s requirements for the English reading ability have been gradually improved.The traditional English education model is limited by its own limitations, which can not meet therequirements. So how to further improve college students’ English reading ability, which requires abreakthrough and innovation in the traditional English education.
6.2 The feasibilities of the applications
Although the relevance theory is introduced from the foreign countries, the sameunderstanding of the essential aspect of the relevance theory, which point out that everything hasrelevance, especially the things have a potential association in the seemingly unrelated situation,decided that the applying of relevance theory to the teaching of the reading comprehension toimprove students’ English reading ability has feasibilities. And whether the feasibilities high orlow in applying of relevance theory to the teaching of the reading comprehension are decided bythat whether students have a good grasp of the theory or not. If students can grasp of the essenceof the applying of relevance theory to the teaching of the reading comprehension, it means thatthe applying of relevance theory to the teaching of the reading comprehension has feasibilities,otherwise, if students just have no idea on the relevance, the feasibilities of applying of relevancetheory to the teaching of the reading comprehension may has no feasibilities for them. Students,who have no knowledge on the relevance theory, certainly have no idea on the applying ofrelevance theory to the teaching of the reading comprehension. So in theory, the applying ofrelevance theory to the teaching of the reading comprehension has the feasibilities, while fromthe practical application, if students have no idea on the relevance theory, the applying ofrelevance theory to the teaching of the reading comprehension has no feasibilities.
6.3 Limitations
The applying of relevance theory to the reading comprehension has a very positive effect inthe improvement of the college English education, especially performances in the aspect ofpositive effect in the improvement of the English reading comprehension in college. However, italso has some deficiencies. And the reasons why these deficiencies caused are may be due to thelimitations of the relevance theory itself and the limitations of its own dissertations.The relevance theory is just a basic theory of pragmatics, which inevitably will havelimitations on the improvement of the college English education mode.
