Chapter One Introduction 

This  chapter  provides  a  brief  introduction  of  the  thesis,  which  includes  the background, purpose and significance of this research at first, and then the structure of this research is presented to help readers understand this paper. 

1.1 Research background   
The information resources are multicultural in cultural, social, economical, political background.  New  thoughts  and  inventions  flood  into  people’s  life.  We  need  to  take advantage  of  them  in  this  information  age.  Exposed  to  all  sorts  of  information,  it  is  very important to tell which are appropriate, which are reliable and which are useful. Reading is the best way to obtain knowledge of English from the outside world. People will be blind and deaf to the world without reading. While, people can be much better at understanding the  world  and  become  learned  day  by  day  with  reading.  In  English  learning,  reading  is considered  the  most  important  skill  in  the  five  skills  which  include  listening,  speaking, reading,  writing,  and  translating.  However,  students’  reading  situation  is  not  satisfactory. Because  the  majority  of  the  students  is  just  to  read  through  the  lines  rather  than  read between  or  beyond  the  lines.  Under  the  present  situation,  academically  and  globally,  to compete  with  their  counterparts  from  all  over  the  world,  the  students  should  have  some new  original  ideas  and  opinions.  Nevertheless,  how  can  students  do  that?  To  achieve  this goal, one of the basic steps is to learn and master how to read critically. Nowadays, students have been studying passively in senior high school. They just sit straight, listen to the teacher and take notes until the end of the class. The teacher sticks to the  traditional  way  of  teaching  which  focuses  on  teaching  the  usage  of  new  words  and explaining  grammar.  Especially,  in  today’s  senior  high  school  English  reading  teaching, many  English  teachers  explain  the  language  points  in  most  of  the  time,  which  usually causes  the  students  to  stay  on  the  literal  understanding  of  the  text.  Thus,  reading  classes will  eventually  become  vocabulary  and  grammar  classes  and  the  students’  reading  skills have  not  improved.  After  class,  many  students  can  clearly  know  the  usage  of  the  new words 本论文由英语论文网提供整理，提供论文代写，英语论文代写，代写论文，代写英语论文，代写留学生论文，代写英文论文，留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
