he importance of metaphor and metonymy inconceptual integration has been well discussed by Grady, Oakley & Coulson (1999) andCoulson & Oakley (2003) since the CIT was proposed by the American scholar Fauconnier(1985).The Conceptual Integration Networks (CINs) proposed by Fauconnier has developedvery fast and aroused more and more interest in the academic field of cognitive scienceboth at home and abroad. With the fast development of cognitive linguistics, ProfessorFauconnier systematically introduces this new cognitive theory in his books such as MentalSpaces (1994), Mappings in Thought and Language (1997), and The Way We Think (2002).Based on the CINs, the CIT has been recognized as one key branch of cognitive linguistics.There are four mental spaces which are InputⅠ  ,Input Ⅱ ,Generic Space and BlendedSpace in CINs. From different aspects, many scholars attempt to show the fact that, theconceptual integration is a general cognitive process which can operate almost all cognitivephenomenon including metaphor, categorization, inference and the making of hypotheses.Since translation and mind are so closely related with each other, using the CIT to exploretranslator’s mind during the process of translation is reasonable and dynamical comparedwith the traditional translation theory. Undoubtedly, it puts forward the cognitive researchto a brand-new field and becomes a milestone in the history of cognitive linguistics. Andmoreover, it provides a scientific and feasible method to explain the translating process andfurther develops the theory of translation studies.With regard to prose translation studies, many theories have been used from linguisticapproach to literary approach, from micro level to macro level. CIT, which has existed foryears, has been applied to the study of linguistics and translation studies. It will be a newperspective to apply it to the study of translation which is related to aesthetics. This thesisis going to explore aesthetic reconstruction in prose translation from the perspective of CIT,taking Liu Shicong’s Prose Translation and Appreciation (2002) and the new edition(2007) as examples.

　　
　　1.2 Reasons for the Choice of Liu Shicong’s Prose Translation刘施枞的散文翻译选择的原因
　　Professor Liu Shicong was born in Tianjin in 1937 and graduated from NankaiUniversity. In 1984, he worked as an English teacher in the English department of NankaiUniversity. Then he joined the Chinese Translator Journal as an editor. He translated somepieces of prose and published them on such journals as Chinese Translator Journal，andlater compiled them into one volume of Prose Translation and Appreciation. He is also atranslation educator and engages himself in translation teaching and training. Moreover, hegives lectures to the university students across the country and makes great contribution totranslation studies.
