Sometimes the wordmeaning copied down from bilingual dictionaries can hardly convey the writer’sinspiration and implication. Euphemisms should be translated in a creative andrhetorical way. The translation of euphemisms often challenges a translator’s wits.Translation is a creative work to a certain degree that survives in novelty. For thisreason, the thesis aims to study the euphemism translation from a newperspective----Skopostheorie, which will provide a much more extensive horizon forand give some enlightenment on euphemism translation. In brief, the study concerningeuphemism translation from functional perspective: Skopostheorie is quite essential,desirable as well as feasible.

1.2 Methodology of the Study研究方法
The method of the thesis is descriptive-analysis and qualitative.To achieve the purpose, of the thesis, the preceding studies on euphemism andeuphemism translation at home and abroad are firstly reviewed, and the theoreticalfoundation: Skopostheorie is described.Then, a well-known functionalist translation theory Skopostheorie is applied tothe euphemism translation. And some strategies of euphemism translation based onSkopostheorie are suggested in the thesis.Last but not the least, a conclusion, that Skopostheorie provides a much moreextensive horizon for euphemism translation, and that Skopostheorie is applicable toeuphemism translation, is drawn from the discussion. The limitation of the thesis andfurther studies on euphemism translation is pointed.

1.3 Framework of the Thesis论文结构
The thesis consists of five parts. Chapter One is the introduction, including thepurpose, significance, methodology and framework of the whole thesis. Chapter Twoinvolves a general investigation of English euphemisms: classification, formation,function and characteristics of euphemism, and related studies of euphemism at homeand abroad. And in the third section of chapter two, the theoretical foundation,Skopostheorie will be illustrated. Chapter Three focuses on the analysis of euphemismfrom the perspective of Skopostheorie. In this chapter, the author will analyzeeuphemism translation based on the Skopostheorie by using abundant examples.Chapter Four touches some translation strategies of euphemism in the hope of providinga more extensive horizon for euphemism translation. Different text types: informativetext, expressive text and operative text have different functions. Different strategies andmethods should be adopted to produce a translation version with corresponding purpose.Based on Skopostheorie, some strategies of euphemism translation are suggested in thischapter. And Chapter Five concerns the conclusion of the whole thesis. By abundantexample analyses, this thesis proved that exactly understanding the euphemisms ofsource text is the precondition, that no single translation strategy can deal with all texts,and that Skopostheorie can be used as a maxim to translate euphemisms and provides abroader horizon for euphemism translation, because there do exist situations whereequivalence is not possible and in some cases, not even desired.
