摘要:纪录片字幕翻译在国内和国外都研究甚少。然而中国在这一领域的研究远远落后于外国,大部分的研究也仅仅围绕翻译实践展开,缺乏系统性的理论研究。尽管目的论是一种指导影视翻译的非常有效的理论,但它很少应用于纪录片字幕翻译。

本文旨在探索纪录片字幕翻译的特点、决定因素以及限制条件,而且对目的论作了进一步解释,使其更加适合指导纪录片字幕翻译。在此基础上,本文结合具体实例探索了翻译纲要、翻译原则、翻译策略。

在全球化的时代,人们越来越要求各国之间的跨文化交流。拥有强大的经济和全球地位更高,中国致力于拥有更大的话语权,在国际社会通过中国文化向世界介绍。In the age of globalization, there has been an increasing demand forcross-cultural communications among countries. https://www.51lunwen.org/translation/ With a robust economy and a higherglobal standing, China is committed to having a greater say in the internationalcommunity through introducing Chinese culture to the world. In the sixth plenarysession of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in October,2011, China’s decision-makers focused on cultural issues. Thus greater importancehas been attached to improving China’s cultural soft power after decades of economicgrowth, generating heated discussions across the country.Chilean documentary film director Patricio Guzman says that a country withoutdocumentaries is like a family without a photo album. As the carrier of language andculture, documentaries, a special audiovisual genre, can be a powerful channel totransfer customs, ideas and values of a culture. Most of the advanced economies havetheir own brands of documentary makers, such as National Geographic Channel andDiscovery Channel of the U.S., British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), JapanBroadcasting Corporation (NHK), etc. Documentaries of these institutions have wonworldwide recognition and affection, exerting great influence upon people’s outlookon life and values. However, unlike the popularity of the foreign documentaries,Chinese domestic documentaries are absent from various international film festivals,and despite that there are numerous television channels in China, only six of thembroadcast documentaries, with about only one twentieth of the total broadcastinghours devoted to domestic documentaries.Many factors result in the unpopularity of Chinese domestic documentaries.Leaving aside obsolete themes, underdeveloped market and insufficient financing,inferior translation is also a problem. On one extreme, some English translations aretoo literal and contain too many culture-specific terms of China, consequently foreignaudience cannot understand them, because there are simply no such concepts in theirown culture. On the other extreme, some translations replace lots of Chinese culturalimages with seemingly corresponding foreign concepts to cater for the foreignaudience, which though may improve readability, violate the very essence ofdocumentaries—observing life in the “original way”. Moreover, according to LengYefu, Deputy Director of Documentary Committee of China Radio and TelevisionAssociation (CRTA), most of the international jury prefer picture language, whenredundant commentaries and didactic expressions of a particular ideology aretranslated into English, many jury often say “no” or shake their heads in disagreement.Hence, how to translate Chinese domestic documentaries well so as to furtherpromote Chinese culture to the world is the problem we should face.However, documentary subtitle translation is a relatively new research field.Though included in audiovisual translation (AVT), compared with fiction filmtranslation, documentary translation has scarcely been addressed by AVT researchers.In other parts of the world, despite the increasing number of researches in this field,most of them lack systematic theories and are carried out on empirical bas论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
