　　This thesis consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of the whole thesis, including the researchbackground, objective, methodology and thesis structure.The second chapter gives an account of Eileen Chang's life experience, herliterary writing and translation career, and discusses the interaction between herwriting and translating.The third chapter introduces The Old Man and the Sea and Hemingway's lifeexperience, analyzing Eileen Chang's motivations to translate this novel.The fourth chapter focuses on a comprehensive and deep-going discussion ofEileen Chang's translation thoughts based on her Chinese translation of The Old Manand the Sea.
