Conclusion

This thesis endeavors to study news translation in the framework of relevance theory.Through analyzing some English news samples and their Chinese versions, we prove thatrelevance theory has a strong applicability to news translation. Besides, the thesis providessome appropriate strategies in the practical news translation, so as to seek the optimalrelevance between the original text and the translation context to achieve the optimalcommunication effect.Based on the principles of relevance theory，the present study utilizes the relevance theoryof Sperber and Wilson and the relevance translation theory proposed by Gutt as its theoreticalbasis，takes English news texts as examples, and adopts an integrated methodology by usingtheoretical and empirical procedures, to explore a comprehensive study of E-C newstranslation.According to the relevance theory, we regard translation as a dynamic description ofsource language in the ostensive-inference process, which captures the fundamental nature oftranslation. Compared with the previous static translation theory? it is indeed a big leap.
