ind the close relativity and viability between translation and relevancetheory. The process of translation is dynamic，and the cognitive relevance mechanism isinferential; therefore the relevance theory has the general explanatory power of translationphenomena.Due to the different cognitive environments of the original text readers and the Chinesetext readers，translators adopt such translating strategies as addition, omission, adaptation andrewriting. The application of translating strategies of the E-C news samples under the guidanceof relevance theory reveals its effectiveness. Therefore，we can arrive at the conclusion thatrelevance theory is an excellent option in the multi-disciplinary translation of various donors.Although this thesis strives to lead a systematic study, it is still far from being satisfactorywith some limitations as follows. The present study only concentrates on the reader'sassumptions with regard to the acceptance of the target text, but there isn't any study that hasbeen put into practice to reflect the target readers5 real reactions to the translation texts.
Therefore，the research results might not be as persuasive as expected. Besides, due to thelimitation of the thesis length, our research field doesn't completely cover all fields, but to findout several typical news samples to illustrate the phenomenon, which involves different aspectsof knowledge, different kinds of news and different parts of news. Therefore, instead of therough classification, the future research may involve more complicated and specificclassification of news in the relevance theory to direct interlingual news translation study. For instance, from the perspective of knowledge of aspects, the news can be further divided intoseveral forms, such as economic news, politics news and sports news, etc.; from theperspective of species，news can be classified into online news, broadcast news, and newspaper，etc.; from the perspective of composition, news can be divided into headline, body，forewordsand etc. In future, much work needs to be done to explore deeper research on the relationbetween relevance theory and translation, thus achieve the ultimate goal, that is，successfulintercultural communication.To sum up，relevance theory views the translation as a dynamic, dialectical issue. Itdepends on relevance to seize the essential characteristics of the translation. It has theontological significance translation, and has a positive significance in instructing the practiceof translation and translation criticism. The results of this thesis may facilitate the present E-Cnews translation practice，compensate for the deficiencies of the existing studies and solve thepractical application of E-C news translation in China.
