However, to perfect the N/MEECE, most of the subjects suggested the syllabusdesign ofN/MEECE should emphasize more on the General English training of seafarersfor it would guide the preparing direction of the testees. Through this way, whileconfronted with daily communication with foreign crew members, seafarer would notfeel as suffering as before. What's more, there is also a strong recommendation ofspecified vocabulary requirements in N/MEECE. Most of the instructors even suggestedthat paraphrase should be adopted as a test form in N/MEECE. Diversify teachingmethods of ME is also of highly agreements. Situational dialogue is promoted no matterin the general ME training and as a form of N/MEECE syllabus. Investigation on whetherSMCP should be popularized in both N/MEECE syllabus and in ordinary seafarerstraining tasks, the gotten result shows a polarization tendency. Some of the subjects havethe notion that SMCP is developed by the IMO, hence it stands for the internationalstandardized approach of communication. On the contrary, some are strongly against tothe popularization of SMCP, for the reason that they considered SMCP is a paradox ofStandard English Grammar and against to the standard Syntactic of English.

5.2 Implication of the Study

Among all the abilities that seafarers are required to acquire，the communicativecompetence of seafarers has been high lightened. After decades of researches, someoutstanding contributions of Maritime English teaching have been made; nevertheless,further studies need to be conducted consistently.As a matter of fact, N/MEECE is the only examination for Chinese seafarers toupper their rankings, whenever passing the examination, seafarer would take a significantposition onboard his ship，they may participate in on board ship decision making. If aseafarer occupies qualified communication competence，marine perils would be avoided,marine pollution would be prevented, and seafarers' security would be assured, etc. Fromthis perspective, the importance of confirming their English communicative competenceis by no means excessively emphasized. Hence，the study carried out on the syllabusdesign of N/MEECE is undoubtedly necessary. On the other hand，with the interactionand globalization, intermingle of seafarers with multilingual background is by no meansunusual. A standardized training course is needed to regulate the international seafarerstraining industry. For the purpose of meeting with the international expectations ofqualified seafarers, comparison between N/MEECE syllabus and IMO Model CourseMaritime Focus is obviously necessary as well. Up to now，the implication of this thesishas been laid out.

5.3 Limitation of the Study
