selection, analyzing the Yangs，translation from the aspects of linguistic and non-linguistic adaptation and selection oftranslation methods and style. Through such analyses, this thesis explored the translatingprocess of the Yangs, i.e. how they made adaptation and selection in their translationaleco-environment，and where they made transformations.Eco-translatology provides a brand new angle to the analysis of this translatedversion Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk from several dimensions and on the macrolevel，conducive to a better understanding of the translation. Besides, this application ofeco-translatology serves as a case study of its applicability and interpretative force.

 

1.3 Structure
The whole thesis is divided into the following six chapters:Chapter One is a brief introduction to the thesis, giving a general idea of theresearch background, the significance of the study and the layout.Chapter Two is literature review，consisting of three sections. The first sectionpresents the previous studies on eco-translatology while the rest two sections focus onthe background information of the book Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dmk，thetranslators Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang and the initial study on the translation of DawnBlossoms Plucked at Dusk,Chapter Three is the theoretical framework, explaining the ecological approach totranslation in detail. It mainly introduces the concept and origin of eco-translatology andits fundamental theory "an approach to translation as adaptation and selection，，，focusingon the "translational eco-environment" and "adaptation and selection in the translatingprocess".Chapter Four and Five are the most important parts，analyzing the version under theguidance of eco-translatology. To be specific, Chapter Four focuses on the Yangs，selective adaptation from two aspects of linguistic and non-linguistic adaptation. Theformer aspect includes the Yangs' adaptation on lexical, syntactic and textual levels whilethe latter comprises their adaptation to their translation needs, competence and thetranslational eco-environment. Moreover, Chapter Five lays emphasis on the Yangs，adaptive selection, elaborating on how they make decisions about the form of the targettext. It falls into two sections, that is, their selection of translation methods and style.They made numerous transformations to fit their translational eco-environment, mainlyon the linguistic，cultural and communicative dimensions. To sum up，through concreteexamples，these two chapters set to find out how the Yangs made selective adaptation andadaptive selection to produce a final text with high “degree of holistic adaptation andselection".Chapter Six is the concluding part，comprising findings, limitations of the thesis andsuggestions for further study.
