Intermodal transport combines advantages from several single transport modes. It brings together two or more modes of transport to move passengers or freight from their origin to their destination, using the efficiencies of each of the carriers to greater advantage (Fei, 2010). This paper analyzes the factors which may affect on development and efficiency of intermodal transport from three parts, the containerization, macro-factors, micro-factors and the challenges the intermodal transport will face. While explaining the macro-factors and micro-factors, there are many different aspects included in those two main factors, such as, cost, service and technology etc. Also, the trends and challenges that the intermodal transport will be faced are mentioned, as well.

Above is the assignment that I may call them the factors which may affect on the development and efficiency of the intermodal transport.

Enormous changes are taking place – and have already taken place – in the handling of goods, not only in the ports, but by truck, rail, and air, because of containerization and intermodal coordination. And as these changes take place, and efficiency and volume increase, new jobs are opening up for schooled and semi-schooled personnel to handle the new systems and the new thinking.
