“The rising trend of criminal activities is due to many reasons. Poverty is very common in the walled city. Majority of houses of walled city are not sure of proper arrangement of meal of next day. Most of the people work on daily wage system which is not assuring their salaries for whole month and it forces them to adopt the path of crime. Narrow streets and complex network of streets is the primary weapon of criminals for mobile thefts and other street crimes.”

My visit to walled city made me to believe on the words of Guddu. The narrow streets and extremely complex network is really advantageous to the street criminals. If we look to the map of walled city then the interlinked streets of walled city can be referred as the lines drawn on a page by a small child. If a street criminal snatches wallet or mobile phone and run then he cannot be traced due to complex network of streets of walled city. This complex network of street is helping street criminals to accomplish their illegal activities. One more noticeable thing which I would like to include here is that walled city police is also helpless in such cases. As streets are narrow so police cannot chase these street criminals on their police mobiles.

In some of the localities of walled city, streets are such narrow that if one person on motor bicycle is coming on foot from opposite side then other passes while slightly turning his. From this example, you can draw a picture of narrowness of such streets of walled city. Such streets can easily be seen in the localities of Shairanwala Gate and Lohari Gate. So, if walking for two persons parallel is almost difficult so tracing a thief on police mobile even on police motorcycle is also equal to impossible. So, here street criminals get an advantage of this drawback of such streets of walled city. Car thefts are also possible due to these narrow streets because residents are unable to park their cars in their garages or outside their houses. This drawback of these narrow streets forces residents of walled city to park their cars away from their houses. And thieves can take benefit themselves from this situation. Due to this, visitors to walled city (non residents) afraid of parking their cars in walled city for long time.

Criminal activities are not only the issue of walled city whole nation is suffering from terrorist attacks. People of walled city are also disturbed and facing due to the terrorist attacks happening in the near-by areas of walled city like whole Pakistan. In the past 5 years, terrorist activities are dominating in the whole nation. Same is the case in Lahore. And if we take a look to the number then again localities of walled city are leading ahead then the remaining localities of Lahore. If we analyze the reasons behind the rising trend of terrorist attacks then we would come to know that majority of these suicide attacks or bomb blasts happened near the religious worshipping places of walled city.
