4.1 The Investigation in Teacher Research Motivation

4.1.1 The Quantitative Analysis of Teacher Research MotivationTo have a more comprehensive understanding of the teacher research motivation,this part first states the overall condition of 117 English teachers’research motivation,and uses Mean Test and Independent Sample Test to compare and analyze thesimilarities and differences of research motivation between novice and experiencedEnglish teachers in senior high school.

4.1.1.1 The General Investigation of Teacher Research Motivation

Firstly,the overall condition of 117 English teachers’research motivation ispresented.The results are as follows.

From the table,it can be seen that the Mean score of 117 English teachers in fourdimensions is“Development Motivation”(M=3.879)>“Survival Motivation”(M=3.820)>“Interest Motivation”(M=3.625)>“Service Motivation”(M=3.373).

5.Conclusions and Suggestions

5.1 Main Findings

The background and the significance of teacher research motivation wereintroduced at the very beginning in this study.Then,the related concepts and theprevious studies on teacher research motivation were reviewed,the reinforcementtheory,attribution theory and hierarchy of needs theory were used as the theoreticalsupport,and the mixed method was adopted to conduct the research.Firstly,theresearcher selected 55 novice teachers and 62 experienced teachers by purposivesampling,they were from the key senior high schools in Urumqi to collect quantitative data,and compared the similarities and differences of research motivationbetween novice and experienced English teachers which include interest motivation,survival motivation,development motivation and service motivation.Then,theresearchers selected two novice and two experienced English teachers by purposivesampling to collect qualitative data by semi-structured interview.After transferringand analyzing the recording,the common factors and different factors influencingresearch motivation of novice and experienced English teachers in senior high schoolwere found out.The following were the main findings of this study.

First of all,on the whole,the research motivation of novice teachers andexperienced teachers was motivated by evaluating professional titles.Besides,theinterest motivation,development motivation and service motivation of experiencedteachers were higher than novice teachers’.While the survival motivation of noviceteachers was higher than experienced teachers’.Among them,the most significantdifference between novice and experienced English teachers was survival motivation,and the second one was development motivation.
