4.1 The Differences in the Proportion of Teacher Feedback BetweenNT and PWT

Classroom discourse is composed of teacher talk,teacher feedback,etc.In thissection,these three categories will be shown in the table(table4-1,table4-2)to explainthe differences in the proportion of teacher feedback and teacher talk between NT andPWT.The researcher displays the quantity and proportion of each category by using theWord Document and Excel.And the results are as follows:

As chapter two mentioned,the classroom discourse is composed of all theutterances in the classroom.From the above data,it is obvious that the proportion of theclassroom discourse of PWT is much lower than that of NT with the average percentageof 46.9%and 71.6%respectively.Thus,it indicates that students’talk in thecompetition classroom is maximum,which can be explained in two causes:on the onehand,PWT give students enough time to read the text,watch the video,and inputenough languages and text contents,leaving more free time for students to think.On theother hand,The PWT scaffolds the pupils properly through diverse feedback,inaccordance with Vygotsky's idea of scaffolding,and students naturally output what theyhave learnt.Students as a result have a great urge to express themselves.On the otherhand,as seen in table 4-2,the classroom discourse of NT makes up 71.6%.Based onreal classroom observations,it is evident that NT tend to talk much more in classroom.

5.1 Summary of the Findings

5.1.1 The Proportion of Teacher Feedback Between NT and PWT

The first difference is the proportion of teachers’feedback.It can be seen thatPWT provide more feedback than NT in English classroom teaching.One reason is thatunder the competition classrooms,PWT need to guide and facilitate learners to thinkabout the questions with the comprehensible input instructions or learning contents.Onthe contrary,NT only focus on teaching pace and purposes,and ignore the students’needs and core literacy.Another reason is that PWT have got many teaching trainingfrom many researchers and developed the basic beliefs about teacher feedback.

In addition,the proportion of the classroom discourse of PWT is much lower thanthat of NT.And students’talk in the competition classroom is maximum.Furthermore,the proportion of teacher talk is also different.PWTs’talk is less than that of NT.However,through the analysis of the data,it can be found that most of the classroomdiscourses are made up of teacher talk rather than students’talk.This means that bothNT and PWT need to speak less and facilitate students to output what they have learnedin the classroom.
