5.0 Assessment Details

The purpose of the assessment for this module is to test whether, and to what extent, you have reached the learning outcomes for the module. It is important that you know early what the assessment diet is and what is expected of you. Assessment criteria specify what it is that you will be assessed against and what, in general terms, you will need to demonstrate in your assessed work in order to achieve the specified grades.

5.1 Details of coursework - type and weighting of assessment

5.1.1 Assignment: 100% of module marks

Task A & B
A.  With close reference to marketing by an owner manager of your choice, submit a written analysis highlighting the relationship of theory to practice.  This might refer to your own working environment, or to one in which you have worked.  Your work should address some or all of the following:

• an analysis of the business behaviour of the people concerned and how it meets or doesn’t meet the evidence, theories and frameworks in the Entrepreneurial and Small Business Marketing literature.
• a comparison with competitors, highlighting any differences
• how you identified the owner manager and obtained assistance with this work.

Word limit 3,000 words.  Your work should conclude with a word count (available on most word processing packages) and should include in an appendix a commentary on your learning (see below).

B.  Learning
In all cases for 10% of the grade you are required to return as part of your submission document a) a list of relevant reading which you carried out and b) a short personal commentary (maximum one side of A4) on your learning on this module.  This should include a reflection on your contribution in class to the learning of others as well as your experience - what you have learned and how about entrepreneurial and small business marketing.  Further guidance will be given on this in class.

Please note
• all students must provide sufficiently clear introductory and supporting material to provide a rationale for choice of organisation as well as evidence of their research process. 
• Obtaining ethics approval for primary research is essential: please consult your tutor.
• Students who do not provide a statement of personal learning will lose 10% of the module grade.
