The study on EST translationfrom the perspective of grammatical metaphor is still worthy of being noticed andexplored, because there are few books and papers that do systematical research in thisfield. Therefore, some aspects in this field remain untouched.Based on the above situation and theory, this thesis makes an attempt to comparedifferent translation versions of Chinese sentence from the perspective of grammaticalmetaphor, aiming to demonstrate the following points. Firstly, the nominalization,verbalization and adjectivization of ideational metaphor can make the EST translatummore concise, vivid and objective. Secondly, the mood metaphor and modality metaphorof interpersonal metaphor can keep the translatum impersonal and formal. Thirdly, thetextual metaphor can make the translatum more cohesive and logic. In short, the goal ofthis thesis is to reach a conclusion that metaphorical form is relatively better when wetranslate EST discourse.The author believes that the research in this field will be interesting andworthwhile, and deeply wishes that this paper may have some enlightenment on thetheory and practice of EST translation yet to come.

1.3 Research Methods研究方法
This thesis mainly applies grammatical metaphor as the theoretical foundation andcompares some sentences in different English translation forms to demonstrate thatmetaphorical translation form is much better in EST translation. This thesis will useanalysis and induction method to present the author’s views on this topic. The examplesare all quoted from books, newspapers, essays and some journals.

1.4. Organization of the Thesis论文结构
This thesis analyzes the EST translation from three branches of grammaticalmetaphor respectively, which is composed of six parts.Chapter one is an introduction which specifies the background, purpose andsignificance of the research done in this thesis.Chapter two is a review of EST translation and the introduction to related theory inthis paper, which mainly has two parts. The first part is about EST translation, includingtwo points: the first point provides the definition and three features of EST. The secondone concerns about the status quo of the study of the translation of EST. The second partis mainly about the grammatical metaphor.Chapter three is about the ideational metaphor and EST translation. The authormainly analyzes the translation of EST in three aspects: nominalization, verbalizationand adjectivization, and then describes the advantages of them. The last part is asummary of this chapter.Chapter four is about the interpersonal metaphor and EST translation. Interpersonalmetaphor contains mood metaphor and modality metaphor, this chapter analyzes thetranslation of EST form these two aspects respectively and then talks about the merits ofit in translating EST.Chapter five talks about the textual metaphor from its three main theoretical typesand its application in EST translation, and then is about the merits of translating EST inthe perspective of textual metaphor.Chapter six is conclusion of this thesis, including two parts. One is the mainfindings of this study, and the other is limitations and suggestions for further study.
