中国英语语言特点剖析   
Introduction                
Languages have been in contact for thousands of years, which can probably trace back to the beginning of mankind when people began to speak more than one language. However, the study of language contact from a linguistic perspective began in the 1960s by Weinreich, who proposes the definition of language contact as the contact among languages in bilingual or multilingual context.
However, some scholars dissent from his idea. Thomason (2001:1)defines language contact as "the use of more than one language in the same place at the same time". Sapir (1921)and Bloomfield (1993) focus on the study of language contact from the perspective of internal language structures, and they contend that the basic language structure can not be changed except some lexical borrowings with the influence of language contact. Since the 1990s, Neilson (1934) probes into the investigation of language contact, and he comes to the conclusion that besides the lexical, the phonetic levels, the syntactic and discourse levels are also liable to change, and it is only a matter of time.
It is known that language contact is universal, and there is no evidence that any language is in total isolation from other languages. Considering the contact between Chinese and English, the history can be divided into three stages: the early stage (from the early 17tn century to the late 19tn century), the mature stage (from the 19tn century to the middle of 20tn century), and the current stage.
During the early stage, one prominent outcome of Chinese and English contact is the appearance of Pidgin English, which has become the "working language" between Chinese people and foreigners. In the second stage, political topic has become the hot issue in China,  and some Chinese expressions with heavy political colors  are translated into English, such as "Paper Tiger', "Red Book (Chairman Mao's work of quotations)", "Capitalistic Intellectuals" etc. Nowadays, the language contact between Chinese and English has been even more intense in terms of foreign affairs, business transactions and cultural exchange. In the age of globalization, Chinese people are eager to introduce China to the outside world, and foreigners endeavor to learn Chinese culture. Consequently, the study of China English has become the necessity to adapt to people's diversified needs.
As is known, globalization of English means the wide spread of English all over the world, and English is one of the five official languages in the United Nations (English, French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish). Crystal (2002: 360) estimates that "over two一thirds of the world's scientists write in English, and three quarters of the world emails are written in English. Of all the information in the world's electronic retrieval system, 80070 is stored in English." Meanwhile, Kachru (1988) points out that native English speakers account for 350 million in 67 countries, and non-native English speakers are about 450 million in 57 countries. According to the latest statistics released by Stockwell (2002:20), one fifth of the world's population regards English as  their first language or second language,  and a further 4_5070  of the population has English as an important language in their lives.
