1.1 Introduction to Margaret Atwood and The Edible Woman

Margaret Atwood (1939 -), born in Ottawa in 1939, is a Canadian writer with international reputation, known as the queen of Canadian literature. She is one of the few women writers in Canada in the 20th century, where men have the right to speak. She spent her childhood in Ontario and northern Quebec. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1961 and received a master's degree in literature from Harvard University. She later taught in many Canadian universities and worked as an editor. Since the mid-1960s, she has created a large number of poems and novels, and has published a total of 25 collections of poems, novels, short stories and literary reviews, and has made outstanding achievements.

In 1939, Margaret Atwood was born in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, and has a happy family. (Cooke,2004) Without the discipline and dogma of those women in the civilized society, Atwood and her brother grew up healthily and happily in the forest. There was no idea in her subconscious that women were inferior to men. (Jiang,2022:10) In addition to loving nature, Atwood's greatest interest in childhood was reading. She reads all kinds of books. Atwood's parents also attach great importance to the education of their children, and bought many books for the brothers and sisters. This also laid a literary foundation for her later writing. 

1.2 Literature Review

Margaret Atwood, known as the queen of Canadian literature, is a prolific woman writer with high quality works. Her reputation has long surpassed that of Canada, and she is a writer with global influence. Although The Edible Woman is Margaret Atwood's early work, it is widely concerned at home and abroad.
