摘要:English is a language and communication is indispensable in learning English.Therefore, the teaching process of English course in TV universities needs fullcommunication between teacher and students.

1. Introduction


1.1 Research background
At present, the English teaching in China is mainly exam-oriented education aiming at examinations and English classroom teaching only pay attention to the instruction and memorization of language points. Teachers instruct in the classrooms from beginning to the end and the atmosphere is dull and boring. English learners under this teaching model lack the communication competence. "Silent English" exists widely in the English teaching in TV universities, which is extremely harmful to English learning. In English classrooms, teachers play the leading role, and even perform a monolog.Teachers are the sole activators in classrooms and "silence in classroom" is a common occurrence. Silence is no longer the lack of language or communication as people commonly think, but an important factor influencing the effective interaction between teachers and students and the class atmosphere.

1.1研究背景
目前,中国的英语教学主要是针对考试和英语课堂教学的应试教育只注重记忆和语言点的指令。指导教师在教室里从开始到结束,气氛沉闷和乏味。在这种教学模式下的英语学习者缺乏沟通能力。 “静音英语”广泛存在于英语教学的电视大学,这是非常有害的英语学习。在英语课堂中,教师发挥主导作用,甚至执行独白。教师是唯一的活化剂,在教室和课堂“沉默”,是一种常见的发生。沉默不再是像人们通常认为的语言或沟通不足,但一个重要的因素,影响教师和学生之间的有效互动,课堂气氛。

 

In the thesis "The Reasons of Silence under Interactive English Classroom Environment in Universities and Its Strategies "written by Xu Ke and Wang Jian, they points out that silence refers to the non-verbal communication activities without sounds and stable meaning presented by the communication subjects according to Saville-Troike's (1985) division of communication activities, and defines silence in classroom as the non-verbal communication activities without sounds and stable meaning presented by teachers and students in classroomteaching environment correspondingly. In a relatively closed environment as classroom, communication subjects are only teachers and students and communication forms areonly teacher-student interaction and student-student interaction. As an important link ofclassroom communication, silence in classroom is a message-transmitting activitybetween communication subjects with questions as the center as well, but it is atransmission with some special hiding form. However, not all the silence can achieve thegoal of interactive communication. A lot of studies have shown that Chinese students'silences in English classrooms are commonly passive. A language can only be learnedwell, grasped and used in daily life by opening mouth to speak. Therefore, faced with thesituation that teachers play monolog in the English classrooms in many universities,many teachers, and even teachers with rich teaching experience, usually complain thatstudents' performance are too dull, who prefer to listen and take notes meanwhile or readby themselves, but would not like to take part in discussions and speak actively, whicheven leads to the failure of class interaction. Based on this situation, this thesis conductssome investigation and put forwards some corresponding measures.
