5.1 Results of the Questionnaires
Originally, students are classified into three groups of language proficiencies accordingto their scores of CET-4. Those who are above 530 are regarded as the high level students.Students whose score range from 440 to 490 are thought as medium level. And the studentswhose score of CET-4 are below 400 are treated as the low level. In order to verify thesignificant difference among the three groups, the writer uses the compare means. And Table5.1 shows the results. In order to verify Question 1 “Do the students at different language proficiency showdifferent levels of speaking anxiety?” Descriptive statistics and One-way ANOVA,correlation analysis have been used. Statistical description from Table 5.2 demonstrates thevarious levels of speaking anxiety among the three groups. In the table, the minimum score ofspeaking anxiety by the low-level student is 82 and the maximum score of speaking anxietyby this group reaches 136. The mean score is 106.2 and the standard deviation arrives at 12.95.For the medium group, the minimum score of speaking anxiety is 58 and the maximum ofscore of speaking anxiety reaches 142. The mean score is 97.44 and the standard deviationarrives at 17.09. And for the high-level group, the minimum score, the maximum score.

Conclusion


The thesis is mainly to explore the relationship between speaking anxiety andcommunication strategy. After the analysis of data from the questionnaire and the interview,three findings are yielded from this study.First of all, non-English majors involved in the study experience the speaking anxiety.However, the level of speaking anxiety among three groups varies. The higher languageproficiency the learner possesses, the lower speaking anxiety he has. That is to say, languageproficiency is negatively correlated with the speaking anxiety.Second, results from the questionnaires show that students’ use of CSs is positivelycorrelated with their language proficiency. The learner with high proficiency shows a betterability to use CSs whereas low proficient learners present a poorer ability to use CSs. Afterdescriptive statistics about the ability to use of CSs in three groups, the mean scores oflow-level, medium-level and high-level are 95.38, 103.76 and 106.76 respectively.
