Case Study of Swedish Company and Its Subsidiary Company in China

Introduction
Because of the rapid globalization of the world’s economy and the technology gap between different countries, international technology transfers have always been an important issue for numerous industries when facing the problems like communication; management style; language and so on (Jolly, 2008, Poon &Evangelista & Albaum, 2005, Zaidman & Brock 2009, Welch D. & Welch L. 2008). Yet, current researches are mainly quantitative research, which are in a general way and have not gave out guide to problems that are facing by companies and their subsidiaries practically.  
International technology transfer has played a crucial role not only in the industrial growth of developing countries, but also in enhancing the competitiveness of the enterprises, which have superior technology, in the international market (Miyake, 2005).

Problem
There are lots of studies on the topic of international technology transfer. However, most of them are quantitative researches and concluded based on phenomenon that are quite normal and in a general way (Jolly, 2008, Poon &Evangelista & Albaum, 2005, Zaidman & Brock 2009, Welch D. & Welch L. 2008). Besides there are no research focus specifically on Swedish companies which have subsidiaries in China -lots of researches are about countries like Australia, Japan, and Germany and so on.
Practically, managers in Sweden always have problems when communicating and understanding with Chinese subsidiaries or business partners. They are eagle to find theories for guidance in the specific topic. 


Purpose
The purpose of the thesis is explore the barriers of Swedish company in the process of international technology transfer and give out practical solutions to the Swedish companies that have subsidiaries in China. The focus is not on the international technology transfer process but on the barriers and why they exist.
Research question
What are the barriers for Swedish companies in the international technology transfer process (to China)?
Theory
The purpose of the thesis is to see the problems (in the firm level) in the process of international technology transfer of Swedish companies and its subsidies in China. The authors would like to exam the problems from the core of the enterprises which are the vision, mission and goal to the 7-S (structure, strategy, skills, staff, style, system and shared values) of the company, and combine the culture influence on Swedish and its subsidies in China.
