基于认知角度剖析英语句式中的衍生机制
本文探讨了英语基本句式、并列句及复合句形成的认知动因，分析了影响英语句式衍生的因素并对英语中常见的三种衍生句即倒装句，强调句和隐喻句的形成机制进行了研究。此外，本文指出了本研究对英语句法教学的指导意义：传统的英语句法教学只注重形式和结构，忽略了意义，不能对句式的本质进行深刻地解释，而应用认知语言学的相关理论来指导句法教学，有助于学习者对英语句式本质的理解。
Introduction
Clause structure is the basis of major advances in the linguistic study.Although observations about clause structure as a part of the whole linguistic theory have as their ultimate objectives the description and the explanation of linguistic phenomena,theyvary in their explanatory criteria and in their perspectives on the specific goals of linguistic theory.However,during 1980s,in linguistic fields emerged a new theoretical approach that allows observations on clause structure to be stated directly,to be analyzed and accounted for fully.This approach has resulted in cognitive linguistics which acknowledges that clause patterns are constrained by the human conceptualization of physical reality in conjunction with human cognition,including human perception and categorization.
Cognitive linguistics is very much focused on clause patterns,the derivational mechanism of English clause structures being largely ignored.The primary motivation for this thesis is to account for,from the cognitive perspective,the formation of English simple clauses and the complex clause structures, and the derivation of other clause patterns including inversions,cleft clause patterns and metaphorical clause patterns.Meanwhile,this thesis also points out the effects of the study on English syntax teaching. This thesis consists of five chapters excluding introduction and conclusion.
The first chapter is literature review,which introduces previous studies on English clause patterns.Structural linguistics,generative linguistics and functional linguistics have made many researches on English clause patterns,but now the most influential linguistic school which studies the English clause patterns is the cognitive linguistic school.
The second chapter sets up the theoretical foundation underlying cognitive linguistics.Firstly,in this chapter,the classical approach to categories and the prototype theory are introduced;then the study of figure and ground theory and its application are evaluated;finally,metaphor both in traditional sense and in cognitive sense are elaborated.
