4.1 Experiment Objectives

Words is an essential element in learning English, is the basis unit of English,thefoundation of all English activities. The importance of vocabulary determines thatvocabulary teaching is an important part of English teaching and the cultivation ofEnglish language ability. Many vocabulary teaching methods has been developed andrefined with the development of college English teaching. Each approach has its ownfocuses, including word derivation, word formation, function, interpretation etc.

This research implement vocabulary teaching under the guidance of the cognitivemechanism theory of conceptual metaphor to testify what effects cultivating students'metaphorical consciousness effectively exerts on improving students' vocabularylearning efficiency and holistic-person growth. And in the process of vocabularyteaching and vocabulary use, students' conceptual metaphor thinking is cultivated inreverse. In this study, conceptual metaphor theory is incorporated into college Englishvocabulary teaching, using intergroup contrast tests,exploring the potential role ofconceptual metaphor in vocabulary learning, guiding students' thinking extensively,fluent conversion between mother tongue and English,realizing the integration of knowledge among multiple disciplines.

5.1 Conclusion

As an important human thinking mode,conceptual metaphorical thinking can beapplied to vocabulary learning,has been embedded into depths of human’s consciousand subconscious mind. In essence, conceptual metaphor consciousness has gonebeyond the superficial form of vocabulary learning,and it has been integrated into thedeep human thinking. The measures to cultivate students' conceptual metaphorconsciousness reflect the obvious necessity specifically for non-English majors in thelearning of new English vocabulary knowledge.
