CHAPTER FIVE DATA ANALYSIS AND RESEARCH RESULTS

5.1 Relevance Test of Questionnaire Survey

Questionnaire  is  designed  to  investigate  every  subdivision  under  the  four  perspectives (audience, motivations and aims, content, time arrangement) of the subjective analysis. Prior to data analysis, it is necessary to testify whether each descriptor included in the questionnaire bears close relevance to the topic and whether each of them  reflects the intention of the survey and investigates consistent objects. Therefore, a reliability analysis of the data obtained from the questionnaire survey is done first. In this study, Cronbach’s Alpha is used to evaluate the internal consistency of measurement items. The test criteria are: when the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of all variables is higher than or equal to 0.7 (the lowest value is 0.5), internal consistency does exist between data, which means that the questionnaire passes the reliability test. The Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient for the whole questionnaire used in this study is presented in Table 5-1 below. According to the table, the overall Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of the questionnaire is 0.753, and the Alpha values of the four dimensions respectively are all higher than 0.5, the lowest value guaranteeing the reliability of questionnaire. Therefore, the variables in  questionnaire reach the internal consistency standard and pass the reliability test. Next verification can be carried out.

CHAPTER SIX CONCLUSIONS

6.1 Major Findings

To evaluate the suitability of the Business English reading textbook, the following three questions were put forward in this study:

1)  What are the expectations of learners to the textbooks in this study?

2)  To  what  degree  do  the  Business  English  reading  textbooks  fulfill  those expectations?

3)  How  can  the  Business  English  reading  textbooks  serve  those  learners  better according to research results?  

Both  qualitative  and  quantitative  research  approach  has  been  adopted  to  answer  these questions. To answer the first question, researcher of the present study firstly reviewed the relevant  literature  in  textbook  evaluation  in  Chapter  two,  and  then  theories  of  needs analysis in Chapter three. The researcher found that though there had already been lists of criteria  and models  proposed for designing  and  assessing textbooks, they  all had their limitation.
