Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Background of the Research
The entry of the 21st century means that we have entered the new era of globalization, artificial intelligence and social information. Human beings are facing unprecedented changes in the world. The new era characterized by social information and the rise of knowledge economy undoubtedly has brought about new challenges to the education. Students will face an uncertain society and a changing future world. In this context, people have to rethink how to better adapt to the challenges brought by the social change? In the field of education, what abilities and qualities should we cultivate? The biggest challenge is how to cultivate the talents needed by the new era through school education and make them possess key competence needed for the development of the new era, so as to realize the development both of students and society (魏书生, 2018:19-20). What kind of educational services should educators provide in order to cultivate the talents needed in the new era? What abilities and qualities should teachers have in order to keep up with the pace of the new era development? And how do teachers cultivate well-rounded development students that can adapt themselves to social development. In face of many new problems and challenges, many international organizations and countries have put forward the index system of key competence in the 21st century, and a new concept of talent cultivation has gradually taken shape, emphasizing that future education should be devoted to the cultivation of talents with key competence in the 21st century.
1.2 Purpose of the Research
This study aims to explore the current situation and development path of middle school English teachers’ own professional competence under the guidance of the English key competence in the context of developing students’ English key competence. Based on the above research background, the problems that we try to explore in this study are as follows:
1) The status quo of the middle school English teachers’ professional competence in Zhoushan Archipelago New Area;
2) The analysis of existing problems and development demands for the professional development of middle school English teachers;
