4. Students’ “Feeling of Achievements”
The students can experience the “feeling of achievements” when they finish a task successfully, or get a high score in a test, or show their achievements in public and accept the classmates’ rewards, especially when they can use their own knowledge in actual situation successfully. This feeling can not only provoke the students’ confidence and determination, but also form the good recycle of English learning. The “feeling of achievements” is the most important for the students who are behind the good students. If the teachers give these students encouragement appropriately, they will stimulate these students’ pride; however, if the teachers give up these students, maybe most of them will lose the chance and confidence to study.

The learning strategy refers to the ability that the students plan, arrange, adjust and evaluate themselves. A person’s study is composed of the outside helping and inner self learning. From Marxism we know that internal cause is more crucial than the external cause; the external cause is the secondary. So, the students’ independent learning is also very important. On the other hand, the traditional English teaching pattern is “one dragon” pattern; that is to say, the teachers control everything; the students just follow the teachers’ order and requirements. (Su DingFang, 2006) If they don’t follow the teachers, sometimes they are told off by their teachers. It leads to the students’ bad custom to comply with their teachers excessively and a loss of their own judgment. The students coming from this pattern are very weak.
English is a kind of life skill of the people in 21 century. If a person wants to stay abreast of the time, they must have the independent learning consciousness and abilities. The independent learning is the essential condition of the students’ learning; the process of students’ development should be controlled by themselves. Therefore, it’s a significant duty for the teachers to set up the independent learning as the central classroom teaching for revealing students’ intrinsic power and arousing their passion.
Taking the independent learning as the central classroom teaching aims to arouse the students’ consciousness of independent learning and to form students’ independent abilities while completing the necessary knowledge teaching and skills training. (Pang WeiGuo, 2003) Then, depending on this forming process, it will raise students’ abilities and consciousness to learn all their lives.
The independent learning thought was first advocated by Socrates in the old Greece. He emphasized the students’ active thinking in their learning and the teacher functioned as a “midwife” (Zhang JianZhong, 1999). The teachers’ responsibilities were to guide and help students in learning. Here “the independent learning” is the students’ activities of learning with teachers’ help. The independent learning is not merely the students’ individual learning, but the one under the teachers’ instruction to carry on the learning together with other classmates.
