One regular opportunity for an extra communicative activity is the “warm-up” at the beginning of each lesson. Some teachers begin most lessons with a review of the language items practiced in the previous lesson. The teaching seems to be directed towards short-term objectives only——learning one item after another for the next test. Instead, the teachers can start lessons with real communication in English. Without focusing obviously on any specific language forms, engage the students in a simple communicative activity, using language they already know. The famous educator R.M. Gagne said that at the beginning, we must realize that the teaching activities are not unalterable and that it doesn’t design in term of the rule strictly (Gagne, M., 1985 ). So, the teachers should make a careful scheme about the change and arrangement of all the activities in their lesson planning, and they should evaluate the scheme’s effectiveness in time for offering the feedback for the future teaching activities.
2. Learning Resources
The learning resources not only refer to the books but also include learning aids and conditions, such as the multi-media, internet, TV, videotape and so on. The good learning resources can stimulate students’ learning interest greatly. For example, when the teachers use the multi-media, they can make use of flashes, slides which cannot be used in the traditional classroom provoke the students’ motive and improve their learning initiatives.
3. Teacher’s Charm and their Attitude towards Teaching
The most part of students’ learning occurs in the classroom. The teachers have the most important influence on them, because the teachers’ personal charm lies not only on their appearance but also on their inherent temperament. A teacher who is full of personal charm embodies in two sides: one is the teachers’ learned knowledge and teaching ability; the other is the teachers should care about the students. The teachers’ knowledge and teaching method are very important elements to stimulate students in their class. A good teacher doesn’t follow the books step by step completely. They take advantage of their own comprehensive information to make the knowledge of the books keep in touch with the other knowledge, and then, the students learn not only this kind of knowledge but also other information.
Moreover, teachers can use the empathy in classroom teaching to involve the students into the communication or dialogue actively. In psychology, the empathy means that people are in other’s shoes in mood or sense. The teachers put themselves in students’ shoes to consider the English classroom to some extent. An US educational psychologist emphasizes that the teachers need to understand their own behaviors just like that they should understand all the students they teach. But, teachers must keep their status properly and realize that they are themselves not the students’. The empathy is a temporary bridge which links up the teachers and students in aims, ideas and feelings. It will make the classroom circumstance harmonious, and then shorten the psychological distance between students and teachers. The teachers are the intimate of the students. They understand the students’ psychological characters, care about their studies and health, and make allowance
