pment of science and technology, many common words are used to describe technical terms; those words are broadly used in mathematics, mechanics, optics, electricity, chemistry and so on. What is more, they often refer to different concepts because of different technical areas. Some of the words in the English language seem very apparent, but if one checks the contents of the article, one can find that “apart”. For example, an article about the notes on the operations of machinery mentioned two words: eyes and ear. At first glance, even a child may know these words, but in fact, these tow words in that article mean the hole and hook respectively. So in order to grasp the exact meaning of those words, the first thing one should do is to gain a clear idea of the given technical area where words are used, in other words, technical area, as a context, determines the meaning of those words, or phrases constitute of words. There are many examples that are set out as followings: Power is usually used in technical area, but usually it has its meaning which decided by technical area, as follows: In mathematics, power means multiplied by itself, a particular number of times. E.g.:2 to the power of 3 means 2x2x2. In mechanics, power is a measure of the power of an engine. E.g.: rated power. In optics, power often refers to multiplying power.E.g:1000-power microscope. In electricity, power means a force that can be produce electricity or machine works. Similarly, work usually has many meanings caused by special areas. Sometimes it broadly refers to job, take work experience for example, work experience can be understood as job experience. The word work used in machinery means activity uses effort and is done for a particular purpose, not for pleasure.
