al'> Early Life:While talking about gongfu/Martial arts, the first name that strikes to mind is the name of Bruce Lee. He was the first one who introduced the Chinese Martial Arts to the world outside china. Bruce lee was born in November 27, 1940, in San Francisco, California. His father was a Hong Kong opera singer. Who moved with his wife and three children to the United States in 1939. Bruce lee is the fourth child of his parents. Lee's mother called him “Bruce,” which means “strong one” in Gaelic. At the age of 3 months he appeared in a film “ American baby in Golden Gate Girl”.

In 1941 Lee Family shifted to Hong Kong. He has in born talent of facing camera, so he appeard in twenty films in his childhood. He also studied dance, once winning a cha-cha competition. Then he became a member of a Hong Kong street gang. Around 1953-54 he started getting training of gung-fu to sharpen his fighting skills. In 1959, his mother sent him back to the America to keep him away from Hong Kong police as he was kept by police due to street fighting. During his studies he got the job of teaching martial arts to his fellow students, that he has learnt in Hong Kong. At that time he met with a girl Linda Emery. Lee and Linda got married in 1964. In the mean time opened his own martial arts school in Seattle. He and Linda soon moved to California, where Lee opened two more schools in Los Angeles and Oakland. In these schools, Lee taught mostly a style he called Jeet Kune Do. (way of the intercepting fist).

Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do.Bruce Lee is still famous and thought of as the Master of Chinese Martial arts because of his true ability to perform martial arts. He was a great critic of Karate for its slow motions/actions, and Wing Chun for its flashy techniques. Both, according to him these techniques are not useful in real fighting as the fighter has to respond the opponent's move in quick succession. This is the goal behind the creation of Jeet Kune Do (JKD). He designed JKD in such a way that could be applied real life situations of combat. The main thing about JKD style is that it has no style. The fighter is not supposed to be specialized in some style but he should respond according to situation. In JKD the every fighter has his own style. It is the style of discovering yourself. According to him when you go with a particular style, you're expressing that style. You are not expressing yourself.

Origins and Evolution of Jeet Kune Do

Dynamic personality of Bruce Lee's was the cause of evaluation of Jeet Kune Do. Initially, as a teenager he started training of Gongfu in Hong Kong under famous teachers of Martial Arts. He did not hesitate experimenting other styles of Chinese and western Martial Arts. When moved to United States along with his family his experiments resulted in the form of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) when he has to involved in challenges with other Chinese Martial Artist.
