This  paper  selects  thirteen  news  discourses  about  Urumqi’s  explosions  respectively, which are published on official websites of China Daily, People’s Daily, BBC, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Times from May 22 to May 24. This thesis  mainly  analyzes  reporting  modes,  news  sources  and  reporting  verbs  in  Chinese  and Western  English  news  discourses  by  adopting  CDA  and  three-dimensional  model  of Fairclough as theoretical basis, aiming to solve the research questions which are proposed in chapter one. The distribution of reported speech (reporting modes, news sources and reporting verbs) and then the same and different features of reported speech in both media are obviously exposed  by  taking  quantitative  analysis.  Furthermore,  some  specific  examples  are  analyzed detailedly to discover the similarities and differences of ideologies in both media by utilizing qualitative method. Lastly, at the explanation stage, the paper gives the reasonable reasons for the same and different ideologies, standpoints and ideas from the perspectives of socio-culture, economy,  religion  and  politics.  Above  all,  research  questions  of  the  present  study  are answered as follows: There  are  the  same  and  the  different  distribution  features  of  reporting  modes,  news sources and reporting verbs in Chinese and Western English media. About reporting modes, the usage of indirect speeches account for the highest proportion in both Chinese and Western news reports. In addition, the Chinese media utilize more direct speeches while the Western news reporters apply more free direct speeches. Moreover, the percentage of narrative report of speech act in Chinese English news reports is four times as that in Western reports.
