Chapter Two Literature Review

2.1 Previous Studies of Government Work Report  
Government  Work  Report  plays  an  important  role  in  summarizing  what  the government  has  done  in  the  last  year,  and  also  it  is  a  guidance  of  establishing  the plan  of  government  in  the  following  year.  It  is  published  every  year  with  Chinese version and its translated version. Its English version has attracted a lot of scholars’ attention. Many scholars try to give an analysis of it in the scope of linguistics. Qiu  Yin(2010)  adopts  Functional  Equivalence  Theory  in  her  thesis  to  give  a detailed description of Government Work Report. Her thesis is named as A Study on the  English  Translation  of  National  Government  Work  Report  from  the  Perspective of  Nida’s  Functional  Equivalence  Theory.  In  this  work,  Qiu  chooses  National Government  Work  Reports  from  2006  to  2008  and  studies  the  English  version  of them  from  perspective  of  lexicon,  syntax,  and  text  within  the  framework  of Functional  Equivalence  Theory.  The  result  shows  that  by  applying  Functional Equivalence  Theory  in  the  translation  of  Government  Work  Report,  it  is  helpful  in making the target text and source text become more identical. One  of  important  application  of  Critical  Discourse  Analysis  is  to  figure  out power and ideology hidden in the discourse by analyzing texts. Just as Manipulation theory says that translation work is never merely a simple transferring between one language and another but more with ideology in it.
