(Meng Weigen,2012:11). It is high time that a lot of attention should be paid in the field of dramatranslation and more study should be carried out too. In this respect, we need to exploreeffective strategies and skills to translate drama into Chinese or other languages.

1.2 The research methods
Usually, the research of this paper is a case study, and mainly descriptive one. Thecase study of two complete English into Chinese translations of Beyond the Horizon will beconducted with the method of comparative study and text analysis.In this
thesis, the case study will adopt descriptive framework from two aspects ofexoticism and acceptability to analyze and describe the differences in two Chinesetranslation versions. The translation strategies of domestication and foreignization will beintroduced to account for the differences in two translator‘s versions.

Chapter Two Literature review
The origin of the method or
strategy of domestication and foreignization has a longhistory. These two concepts can be seen as the extension of the literal translation and freetranslation. So when we trace the history of domestication and foreignization, it isinescapable that we should trace the history of literal and free translation. The debates overwhether the translation should employ the method or strategy of domestication or theforeignization one has also gone through an endless process at home and abroad. This partreviews the related study on the method or strategy of domestication and foreignization inChina and West, especially the historical development of the domestication andforeignization.
2.1 Studies on Foreignization and Domestication at home
In the period of Eastern Han Dynasty, actually, the earliest debate on translation is theearliest dispute over domestication and foreignization. According to Scythian missionaryZhi Qian's(支谦)records in preface to Dhammapada(((法句经·序》), the first recordeddeclarations on translation in China. In this article, it mainly focused on the styles oftranslation and the problem of translation standard, which is so-called the ―simpletranslation(文)and ―sophisticated translation(质), that is to say, it is relate to the disputeof ―the elegant and the plain in the translation. The ―Plain translation is equal to theforeignizing translation, while ―elegant translation is equal to domesticating translation.Furthermore, it also recorded a debate between Zhi Qian and Wei Zhinan. Zhi Qian firstcriticized that the translation of Zhu Jiangyan is not elegant in Chinese because headvocates the elegant translation. The other one refuted that the words of Buddha should betranslated exactly and need not any decoration. It may be the earliest debate between freetranslation and literal translation.
