He is a gifted writer, who is expert in using literary techniques in expressing his ideas. In Invisible man, he employs blues, folklores and symbols to reflect his theme. With blues and folklores interplay, in addition to the skillful use of symbols, the novel achieves deeper meaning beyond the surface.

The blues notes are weaved both in and behind the lines. It gives the protagonist courage and strength when he is in difficulty.
