Conclusion

From the theoretical perspective, the present research studies the interpersonalfunctions of hedges in news commentary framed on the theory ofSystemic-Functional Grammar. So it is hopefully that the findings of this research canbe a supplement to the previous studies. From the practical angle, it is hoped that theresearch could provide some constructive suggestions for the writers, and the authoralso wishes it can instruct the reader read newspaper more efficiently and objectively.What‘s more important, this study may also help English learners to read and writeEnglish effectively. And English learners may grasp a useful language strategy－hedges.
Even the perfect things have deficiency. So does this study. The limitations are asfollowing:
Firstly, the corpus may not be so mature. The corpus only includes 60 newscommentaries from only two newspapers. The limitation of the data may affect theresults of the findings. Therefore, more resource may be helpful to make a morecomplete result.
Secondly, the theory applied in analyzing this genre of discourse is stilldeveloping, and also need to be improved. Therefore, with the development of thetheory, the research can be definitely improved, too.
