ers. According to Rumelhart (1982), reading is an interaction between the readersand the text. Reading is a process of understanding the written language. In a word, readingis a process of dealing with the interaction between readers and writers. Reading is a wayof inputting a language. An excellent reading can facilitate language input effectively andfoster students’ reading interest. Reading is the basis in people’s lifelong study anddevelopment. Reading can provide readers with a way of getting knowledge. In Englishteaching and learning, reading is the most important language skill (Carrel, 1989).Alderson and Urquhart (1984) as well state that it is reading that is often an significantmethod for readers to gain some knowledge and information about the academic studies,professional success and personal development. Bacon once describes that reading makes afull man; conference makes a ready man; and writing makes an exact man. Therefore,reading can enlarge readers’ eyes, enrich readers’ hearts, and shape a perfect man. Readingshould accompany everyone in the lifetime.

Chapter Four Data Analysis and Discussion

In this chapter, the process of data analysis and discussion will be presented. This canindicate the experiment results obviously. The results can demonstrate if the narrowreading is fit for the English reading training in junior high school. The data analysis anddiscussion can be described in the following three sides:The first one is the analysis and discussion of the questionnaires which will test thechange of the students’ interest in English reading. The second one is the analysis anddiscussion of the tests which is to show the comparison between the pre-test and thepost-test in EC and CC to examine the shift of the students’ achievements. The last part isthe analysis of the interview which is also going to indicate the change of students’ interestin English reading after the experiment.

4.1 Data analysis and discussion of the questionnaire

Before and after the experiment, the same questionnaires were distributed to thestudents in EC and CC, which were the pre-questionnaire and the post-questionnaire.
